Why this page exists
A counter is useful when the destination is strict.
TextLimit keeps the core counts together so you do not need separate tools for every field.
Fast feedback
Counts update as you type or paste.
Practical limits
Use presets for SMS, SEO, social posts, bytes, and reading time.
Local counting
Your draft text is counted in the browser tab.
Practical guide
Understand every text count in one place.
A single draft can have different character, grapheme, word, byte, and SMS totals. The all-counts view helps you compare those measurements before choosing a stricter preset.
Characters and graphemes
TextLimit reports Unicode characters separately from visible graphemes. A grapheme is what a reader usually sees as one symbol, while a character count can treat a combined accent or multi-part emoji differently.
Words and structure
Word, sentence, paragraph, and line totals help explain the shape of a draft. They are useful for forms and editorial targets, but they do not judge whether the writing is clear or complete.
Bytes and SMS segments
UTF-8 byte size matters to APIs and databases. SMS segments depend on the message encoding, so a short message with emoji or non-Latin text can use more segments than plain English text of the same visible length.
Time estimates
Reading time uses 225 words per minute and speaking time uses 140 words per minute. These are planning estimates. Dense technical writing, pauses, names, and formatting can change the real time.
A reliable counting workflow
- Paste the final draft, including spaces, punctuation, links, and line breaks.
- Check the measurement the destination actually enforces.
- Review related counts when emoji, international text, SMS, or storage limits are involved.
- Validate the final copy in the destination platform before publishing or sending.
